Fairfax Real Estate

It took almost 100 years for Fairfax to incorporate as a city.  In 1839 the land that is Fairfax was part of a Spanish land grant.  The property changed hands several times over the next 70 years.  In 1855, Lord Fairfax of Scotland moved to the area to take advantage of the gold rush in California.  In the 1890's, Madame Pastori, an Italian opera singer, opened a restaurant that still stands today.

With railroad service, came easy travel and Fairfax became a favorite getaway for many city people.  Thousands flooded the Fairfax Park every weekend.  The city further made its mark as the setting for dozens of Western films between 1910 and the early 20s.  Alpine Dam was constructed in 1917 and many of the Italians who worked on the site stayed in the city.

When Fairfax was incorporated in 1931, a government was established in the form of a five person council.  Today, the city has 7,000 residents.  The population of Fairfax is diverse and the community rich.  Located just 16 miles north of San Francisco, an easy commute makes living here possible!

Fairfax real estate retains the small town feel that makes it the perfect place for families. Yet its rich music scene is a draw for singles alike.  The town is in close proximity to both state and national recreation areas, making your outdoor hobbies easy to pursue.  The Upper Ross Valley provides a picturesque setting to call home with all the conveniences of modern life and a rural escape equally accessible.
