The Tiburon Peninsula is an area with a long and rich history. Before being settled by John Reed in the 19th century, the peninsula home to a minimum of fifty Native American villages. The artifacts and petroglyphs left behind that can still be seen today, are testimony of their lives here.
John Reed first established his cattle herds on the Tiburon Peninsula. His herds moved across the land that is now Belvedere, Tiburon, Mill Valley, Corte Madera and San Quentin. Reed also built a brickyard, stone quarry, and salt yards. In the 1880s, with the completion of the railroad tracks, the peninsula was forever changed.
Tiburon was established as a result of the train tracks. Travelers could now come to take the ferry to nearby San Francisco. Wealthy city dwellers started to build summer homes on the peninsula as a way to escape city life. Over the years, Tiburon's main street was consumed by fire twice and rebuilt.
Tiburon was not incorporated until 1964. The town is now home to 9,000 residents. Many of Marin’s luxury properties sprinkle the hills of Tiburon, made up of a beautiful collection of historical landmarks, Victorian homes and modern homes. The town has excellent schools, beautiful parks, shopping areas, and top of the line restaurants. Boating remains a popular pastime and both the San Francisco and Corinthian Yacht Clubs are present here.
Residences range from small cottages remodeled to incorporate every modern luxury to contemporary, beautiful homes dotting the hills. The breathtaking views from these homes are enough to ensure one never wants to leave. For the adventurous home owner, daring houses engineered seemingly over thin air are present in Tiburon as well.
The natural beauty and recreation provided in the area draw both visitors and new residents every year. Come see what Tiburon has to offer you.
